Boy Scout Objectives

Mission

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Vision Statement

The Boy Scouts of America is the nation's foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training.

In the future Scouting will continue to:

  • Offer young people responsible fun and adventure;
  • Instill in young people lifetime values and develop in them ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law;
  • Train young people in citizenship, service, and leadership;
  • Serve America's communities and families with its quality, values-based program.

As a boy scout you should be striving to achieve the following:

  1. Gain an understanding of citizenship and how it affects you and your community.
  2. Stay physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
  3. Build a character such that you may succeed in relationships in business, home, church, community, etc.

The ranks of Boy Scouts will help you achieve these things. Though they are not the objectives of the program you need to pursue them because they are the vehicle to achieve the objectives.

Here are some important tips:

  1. Start early on. If you become a boy scout at age 16 you will have twice the challenge of becoming eagle and participating in the character building activities. You will be dating, active in sports, and other activities, etc.
  2. Get to First Class as soon as possible. Then take your time in the other ranks to learn the new skills very well.
  3. Be have. No one enjoys being around a nincum-poop. But, people love to be around someone who is fun (not obnoxious) and gets things done. Listen to your leaders and you will grow.
  4. Include your parents in everything, everything.
