Scout Law

A Scout is:

Description:

TRUSTWORTHY A Scout tells the truth. He keeps his promises. Honesty is part of his code of conduct. People can depend on him.
LOYAL A Scout is true to his family, Scout leaders, friends, school, and nation.
HELPFUL   A Scout is concerned about other people. He does things willingly for others without pay or reward.
FRIENDLY   A Scout is a friend to all. He is a brother to other Scouts. He seeks to understand others. He respects those with ideas and customs other than his own.
COURTEOUS   A Scout is polite to everyone regardless of age or position. He knows good manners make it easier for people to get along together.
KIND   A Scout understands there is strength in being gentle. He treats others as he wants to be treated. He does not hurt or kill harmless things without reason.
OBEDIENT   A Scout follows the rules of his family, school, and troop. He obeys the laws of his community and country. If he thinks these rules and laws are unfair, he tries to have them changed in an orderly manner rather than disobey them.
CHEERFUL A Scout looks for the bright side of things. He cheerfully does tasks that come his way. He tries to make others happy.
THRIFTY A Scout works to pay his way and to help others. He saves for unforeseen needs. He protects and conserves natural resources. He carefully uses time and property.
BRAVE A Scout can face danger even if he is afraid. He has the courage to stand for what he thinks is right even if others laugh at or threaten him.
CLEAN A Scout keeps his body and mind fit and clean. He goes around with those who believe in living by these same ideals. He helps keep his home and community clean.
REVERENT A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others.

Dear Boy Scout leaders, I wish to register my horror at the speech our current President gave at your Jamboree. I know it is customary to invite the President as it should be. However it is not customary for that President to discuss politics, especially in such a divisive manner. After promising not to bring up politics Mr. Trump brought it up repeatedly. I also feel that President Trumps behavior did not (during his speech)and does not even come close to meeting the very standards and goals your organization represents. He is not loyal (never mentioned Jeff Sessions who was an Eagle Scout and whom Trump is trying to get rid of right now), or trustworthy or reverent to name a few. Does President Trump respect the beliefs of others? No, he makes fun of and bullies those who disagree with him. You are well aware of his comportment as it is seen in all of his tweets. He is not trustworthy as he continously contradicts his own words, tweets. All public record regardless of one's news source, fake or otherwise. I have to say that his continuous deriding of our system of free press is down right scary. Look at history and world leaders who deride and eventually shut down free press are never histories heroes. My husband is a former boy scout. His mother served as a den mother for years. She is no longer with us but my husband was appalled. I ask your organization to condemn the show that President Trump put on for the young boys and men in your charge. It was not at all true to the very values you hold dear and are so clearly listed above. If I had boys in the Scouts right now I would quite possibly pull them out after what I saw at the Jamboree. And yes, I watched the speech as well as read his transcript. Thank you! Sincerely, Sheila Wilson
